Wind and Sand is an online space dedicated to exploring connections between humans, nature, and art. Through my work as an artist and educator, my goal is to share creative experiences and practices that use art to reveal what nature has to teach us about ourselves.
Discovering
the wisdom of nature through art

Marlowe Emerson is an artist and educator who creates large scale abstract paintings that explore cycles and patterns in nature and the wisdom they reveal. Her process is informed by her Native American family history and childhood memories of using art as a way of communicating with nature. Combining paint with everyday materials on the canvas, she creates layers of meaning and personal narrative that speak to our intimate connection with the natural world. She holds a degree in French and Art History from Georgetown University and spent a decade studying painting in the south of France. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Art in Embassies program. She currently works out of her home studio in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
