A tribute to the art of belly dance in the form of a spectacular show at the Lime Spider in downtown Akron featuring some of Ohio’s best professional belly dancers. These are the dancers in our area who work professionally every weekend at weddings, parties, festivals and restaurants.
This is a rare opportunity to see these local artists together in one show. Three dynamic shows with authentic foods and live music and percussion!
A brief discussion on the history, origins and cultural aspects of belly dance will precede the first show.
Between shows the music will continue so you can get up and shake it yourself! Or go to the rooftop patio to check out Gypsy Soul’s Poi (fire spinning arts) dance performance.

WORKSHOP WITH TAMRA-HENNA
Tamra-henna is a performer, choreographer and instructor of Middle Eastern dance whose emotional range and technique have been shaped by her seven years of performance, study, and life experience in the Middle East.
With the intention of learning the art of Raqs Sharqi from its source, Tamra-henna moved to Egypt to study Egyptian style musical interpretation and technique as well as the Arabic language and culture. She trained with Nadia Hamdi, Raqia Hassan, Mona El Said, and Ibrahim Akef while pursuing a performing career in Cairo. During this time, she performed in Egypt’s most prestigious venues including: the Cairo Meridien, Cairo Sheraton, Cairo Marriott, Mena House Oberoi, and most notably the Nile Hilton, where she held an extended contract. Subsequently, she accepted contracts throughout the Arab world and has performed, traveled, and lived in Lebanon, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, and Cyprus.
Since her return to her native California in 2000, Tamra-henna has earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance/Choreography (within the genre of raqs sharqi,) at UCLA. There, at the Department of World Arts and Cultures, she teaches a yearly, accredited class in raqs sharqi technique and culture. Currently, she tours internationally as a featured soloist and workshop instructor with the “Bellydance Superstars.”
